San Antonio, TX - St Patrick's Weekend - March 2011

For the last few years John, JoAnna, Shawna, and I have gone somewhere for St Patrick's.  Previous years have seen us in Savannah, Boston, Chicago, and Hawaii.  We keep looking for the top places to spend St Patrick's, and San Antonio seemed to be a good one.

Accommodation:
The four of us shared a room at the Courtyard By Marriott on the Riverwalk.  It was a great hotel - quite central to everything we wanted to do (basically eat and drink).

Activities:
John and Jo were not arriving until late on the Friday night, so Shawna and I had dinner ourselves.  Knowing that the next day would be consumed with drinking, we retired fairly early to get some rest.

Keith and JoAnna on Segway Tour
On Saturday, we kicked off the day with a Segway tour of the area.  It was a fun way to see the area - and even more interesting to navigate our way through the St Pat's parade.  Following the tour, Shawna and JoAnna plopped themselves down for lunch at one of the restaurants on the riverwalk while John and Keith went back to the hotel for a quick workout.  We all met up later in the afternoon to watch Duke basketball (ACC Tournament) at Pat O'Brien's.  Following the game, we stopped into a few of the bars on the riverwalk for a few beers.  Later that evening, Nancy, Hall, Tracy and Dave drove down from Austin and met us for a yummy dinner followed by drinks.  It was great to see them and to celebrate with them.  Having kids to get back to, they drove back later that evening to Austin.

Celebrating in One of the Bars!
On Sunday, we met up with our friend Jeff who was vacationing in the area to watch the final game of the ACC Tournament - Duke vs UNC.  We cheered Duke on over wings and beer and was ecstatic to see them crush UNC!  After we said our goodbyes to Jeff, Shawna headed to the airport while John, JoAnna and Keith went to see a movie and grabbed an early dinner as we flew out on Monday morning.

Restaurants:
Ácenar
Shawna and I ate here on Friday night.  It's a great Mexican restaurant on the riverwalk.  Excellent margaritas and guacamole (made table-side).

Boudro's
Nancy, Hall, Tracy and Dave met us at here on the riverwalk for dinner.  The food was very tasty - it is a rather small restaurant and quite popular so reservations are definitely needed!
