Since I had all my ski stuff in Colorado after the week with Shawna, I arranged to meet Patrick for a boys ski weekend. Patrick flew in the Friday afternoon and I met him at the Denver airport. We immediately headed out to Keystone for some night skiing. Patrick spent much of the drive and a bit of time in the River Run parking lot dealing with his car wreck of earlier this week. Once that was wrapped up, we strapped on our ski gear and bounded up the gondola for as many night-ski runs as possible in a couple of hours. It had been a while since I had done night skiing, and it was just amazing. We barreled down the runs and got in about 7 runs before the place shut down. We grabbed a beer or 3 before heading to Breckenridge where we were staying at Main Street Station, which is right next to the Hyatt. We grabbed a quick bite at the Breckenridge Brewery and then headed to bed for an early day the following day.
Saturday saw us skiing in Vail - it was a great day. Despite my lack of skiing prowess we focused on the back bowls - definitely a stretch for me. On Sunday we hit Breckenridge which I had not skied since Ewan and I were there almost 20 years ago (and totaled the rental car to boot). Breck started off a bit slow, but we eventually made our way to Peak 7 and 8 and spent the day on blacks and had a fantastic time. We ate at Breck Brewery again on the Sunday night and then left early on Monday am for Keith to get to work.

Keystone and Boulder, CO - Feb 2011
Shawna's boss had said she could work remotely every once in a while to ease the travel for Keith. So she came out for one week in February and we took the opportunity to have a couple of weekends in the mountains.
Accommodations:
Keystone Lodge & Spa
While this building is pretty bland and looks like a '60s nuclear bunker from the road, the inside is actually quite nice. We stayed here the first weekend while we hung out in Keystone.
Hyatt Denver Tech Center
Aaahhh - home, sweet home! Shawna worked from Keith's hotel (aka home away from home) during the week.
Marriott Boulder
There is nothing special about this hotel but it's fairly affordable (for Boulder standards) and quire convenient to Pearl Street which is the main drag in Boulder with most of the restaurants and shops.
Activities:
Keystone Weekend:
On Saturday, we did absolutely nothing. OK, we actually got a massage, and caught a movie, but that is pretty much it. Totally embarrassing but much needed to just chill for a day. On Sunday, we dragged our lazy selves to go snowshoeing from the Nordic Center. It was a super-hot day so we were dripping with sweat, but still had a nice walk along the Nordic trail. It was a lot of fun...until we saw people walking in regular shoes along the same trail! At least we got some exercise.
Boulder Weekend:
We spent a lot of time walking along Peal Street Mall, catching a couple of movies, and getting to know the area. Boulder is near the top of the list for potential retirement places - though we have a few more to check out.
Restaurants:
Nozawa Sushi and Thai Kitchen
Our original plan was to go to the Dam Brewery for dinner but it was booked solid by the time we arrived in Dillon. So we made our way across the road to the strip mall and found this place. The sushi was surprisingly good for being a small town in the mountains but wouldn't necessarily rush back.
Larkspur
Located in Vail, this small restaurant serves contemporary American food in a comfortable setting with a large open kitchen. The food is quite delicious - a worthwhile place to go!
Zolo Grill
Located in Boulder, this is a casual and tasty Southwestern restaurant, recommended by our friend Kristina. We chowed down on yummy guacamole and some other tasty dishes.
The Black Cat
This restaurant in Boulder serves fresh bistro style dishes in a charming small dining room. We decided on the five course tasting menu with wine pairings which was quite a treat! Great food, atmosphere and of course company (the two of us)!
