New Scottsdale House |
Keith had accepted the job in
Scottsdale so it was time to find a house. Our mission was to find a place to live in one weekend, extending the success of the house searches in
Denver and
Baltimore.
Jodi had recommended the agent that she and Tim used to find a place, so we worked with Julie ahead of the trip, giving her our requirements. We both arrived in Arizona on the Thursday night: Shawna from Baltimore and Keith from Dallas. Our luxurious accommodation for the next week was the
Extended Stay America, which had two things going for it: super-inexpensive (~$50 per night) and centrally located in old Scottsdale so Keith could get to work quickly.

J
ulie met us at Starbucks at 8am on Friday and we immediately hit the road. We spent the day looking at 14 houses in Arcadia, Central, and North Scottsdale. The Arcadia houses were all remodeled but the original 70s architecture was not as appealing. The houses were newer and nicer the further north we looked. The place that balanced all of our needed was NE of the intersection of 101 and Cactus. While the design was not quite as modern, the great room and open layout did it for us. The exterior of the house is stucco and the interior is very light with white walls and light wood/tile floors. The house has three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, an office, a huge living room/kitchen/dining room, a separate room (that we may turn into a gym), a large garage and a nice pool and patio in the back of the house. We visited a second time at the end of the day to make sure it was still the one for us and decided to 'sleep on it' before we made an offer. On Friday night, we had dinner was at the Cornish Pasty Company, a favorite of Keith's - we shared a greek salad (no olives) and a pasty.

On Saturday, we drove up to Julie's office to complete the offer for the house as well as to print out all the material needed for a mortgage - we killed many trees in this process. The paperwork took most of the morning but we were done by mid-day. We also were lucky that the Audi was being delivered - Keith changed the drop-off location to near Julie's office just off 101. The owners of the house had until 9pm to respond to our offer - so with the crazy heat of the summer we headed to see
The Nice Guys movie - not our cup of tea in the humor department. After a shower and changing at the hotel, we walked to dinner at
Virtu Honest Craft - listed as the second best restaurant in Scottsdale and only a half block walk from our hotel. The dinner was delicious - and to top off the delicious food, while at dinner we received an email from Julie that the house was ours!

Office |
Sunday morning, we met Julie at the house to get measurements of each of the rooms and document any changes we wanted to make. We also drove the neighborhood to find the nearby retail and stopped by a patio furniture store to get ideas on how to pimp out our new pool area. We ate lunch at AJ's and then went to another movie - this time
Central Intelligence with The Rock and Kevin Hart - this was really quite funny. Shawna had gone some shopping in the afternoon so dinner was Lean Cuisine with an early night to bed so Keith could start his new job the next morning bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!
