LA for Honny's Bday - January 2019

Shawna and Honny Goofing Around at Myrtle's Plantation Gift Shop
When we were visiting in December, Shawna's mom "hinted" that we had not been there for her birthday in a while.  We were supposed to go to Palm Springs this weekend but with Catholic guilt settling in, we canceled this and went to Louisiana instead to be with Honny for her birthday.

We flew in late on Thursday night, staying in New Orleans at the Best Western near the airport.  We got up early on Friday morning and drove to Honny's house, working from the house the rest of the day.  That evening, Shawna cooked a healthy meal of panko chicken with asparagus and roasted potatoes.

After breakfast on Saturday, we drove to St Francisville to tour the Myrtle's Plantation, which is a pretty home surrounded by large trees that are draped with moss and is touted as one of the most haunted plantations. We did not see any ghosts!  After the tour, we had lunch at The Francis where we shared a crab and corn bisque and a salad.  Honny got the fried catfish platter which was enormous so we of course helped her some!

After lunch, we drove back, dropping Keith off at the house to take a nap (he had not slept very well the night before) and then went to visit Hope (Shawna's friend from high school) whose father had recently passed away. It was great to see her, Craig and their eldest child who recently got engaged.  On the way home, we stopped at Walmart to stock up on more groceries.  That evening, Shawna cooked another chicken dish.

On Sunday, Ginger and Michael stopped by for lunch on their way back from Baton Rouge.  We cooked pork tenderloin with polenta and green beans.  As usual, we had a lot of laughs.  We also did a little planning for their trip to AZ in April.  After they left, we visited Nicole and watched the Saints game - they lost in overtime!

On Monday, we had a yummy breakfast of avocado toast and then relaxed in the morning before we drove back to the airport, leaving around 1pm.  While it was no Palm Springs, it was nice to spend the weekend with Shawna's mom who was so happy we came.
